we watched PAN'S LABYRINTH

this show is really dark..

storyline:
The story begins in Spain, 1944. Officially, the Civil War has been over for five years, but a small group of rebels fights on, unbroken, in the northern mountains of Navarra.

Dreamy 10-year-old Ofelia moves to Navarra with her delicate, pregnant mother Carmen, to become acquainted with her new stepfather, Captain Vidal, a Fascist officer under orders to rid the remote territory of rebels.

Captain Vidal has billeted himself inside a crumbling mill. Imperious and intimidating, he makes no effort to befriend his stepdaughter. Lonely, the child turns to Mercedes, a young cook working for Vidal's troops, for companionship.

Ofelia, who is fascinated by fairy tales, discovers an overgrown, tumble-down labyrinth behind the mill. In the heart of the labyrinth she meets Pan, an ancient satyr who claims.

my view:

i initially thought it will be a la 'alice in wonderland' kinda film with uglier creatures and a clever twist in the ending. was kinda disappointed that it focused tooo much on the war which made it really bloody and awful to watch. which also explains why i was covering my eyes and grabbing hasrul's wrist throughout the entire 2 hrs

the film do set you thinking and give u a space to interpret the ending yourself.
was the whole fairl tales and being an underground princess all in ofelia's head or was it all for real?

it was clear to me that everything was ofelia's imagination. she used her imagination to aviod the realities of war and life. it's hard losing your father and it's worse when your mother decides to remarry a sicko who never loved her but used her only to carry on the family line... no wonder ofelia imagines that she's a princess from underground and her REAL father is looking for her.

this really shows how actions can affect a person badly esp for a child... and it's really sad to know that this is also real for many children. like child rape..

i didn't really like the ending though it was pretty much expected.
the sicko step father shoot her to death~ but she did die happy cos she believed that she is indeed a princess.

for the time being, i tink i still prefer chick flicks and cartoons.

to leqi:
i'll nv forget your love and support!!! =)
we gotta meet more cos i miss u badly
